Hauntings, Take Two
As promised, here is another story about ghosts that live with me.
I'd been in my century old house for about a month when a couple of different things started to happen.
I noticed a horrific smell that would come and go. I tried and tried to find the source of the odor but was not able to pinpoint where it was coming from. With its elusiveness making it even hard to find I eventually gave trying to locate the odor and concentrated on getting the house ready to open as a bed and breakfast.
A year after I bought the house, I opened the BnB. It was actually more then a year after I opened the inn that I began to notice that the odor would arrive with my guests and leave when they did. NOT a good thing to have happen when you are running a inn! SO, I decided, since I had nothing to loose, I had a 'heart to heart' with my ghostly guests and told them to knock it off.
Did it work? Well, I've not had the odor since.... you tell me.
Another incident occurred before I opened the inn.
Working on renovations on the inside of the house, I had moved everything out of what would be my guest's dining room and removed the doors of the built in china hutch in preparation to painting the room. (I believe there are pictures on the facebook page for the inn: Riverside Manor Bed and Breakfast-now closed)
The guest dinning room is fairly large. It was originally the living room of the house. Besides the build in hutch there is a fireplace and a sort of bumped out floor to ceiling bay window. there are four french doors that lead off of this room, one of which would become the Lilac guest room.
After painting the window trim, I was using a razor blade to remove the paint that had dripped onto the window glass. It was dark outside and I had not yet installed curtains so the room was reflected in the glass. My mom was visiting and was sitting behind me in a straight back chair with her feet up on another. I was scraping the paint with my back to her, but I could see her reflection in the glass.
As we were talking, I suddenly saw a form, the best way to explain, come out of the Lilac room, briefly rest in the dinning room, before heading behind my mom and entering the small bedroom under the stairwell. I whipped around and my mom asked what was the matter, that I looked like I'd seen a ghost---and then she quickly realized that it was a distinct possibility and she turned around to see if she could see it as well.
I have more stories yet.......
