A new "job"

Most of you know that I struggle with my weight as so many people do.  I've tried numerous 'gimmicks' and ideas and none seem to work. Too restrictive to keep to it, too difficult to follow or any number of many other excuses.

I've done a lot of research- as I'm sure you have- and it comes down to the same things.

One, there is no "magic pill" that you can take and melt off the weight.

Two, long term meaningful and safe weight loss means a lifestyle change.

Three, changes can only be brought about by changing your mind set.

And four, it is a full time job-at least in the beginning- to accomplish those goals.

For me, I came to item number three first. I've approach the mark of being upwards of a hundred pounds overweight. While I carry it 'well', I'm still way too heavy. This brings me to number two on my list.

Time for a lifestyle change. This doesn't mean I will stop enjoying the things I want, but I will learn to limit those indulgences. If I cut them out completely I set myself up for failure.

So, all that's left is the realization the one is a reality (sorry folks) and any program will need be viewed as a job (at least for me)

I did more research and all the successful, long-term safe programs point to Weight Watchers. I reviewed the new programs and decided I would take advantage of the special that will expire in three days. You have to commit to six months and you get the first month free. A free cook book comes along with the offer.

I signed up today. There is a meeting on Wednesday that I will attend. For me, I will officially start on Thursday after the meeting. This gives me three days to get rid of the 'bad' stuff and procure some good fresh food that will be better choices for me. This time will also help  me marshal my forces so to speak.

I've now committed to the next six months to this program or pay a forfeiture fee. This means I have some 'skin' in the game. Another incentive, at least for me. At least for me. Everyone is different.

Over the course of the next six months, I will endeavor to share my experiences and along the way. As I said, I am approaching this like a job- I will schedule time for workouts like appointments and stay with them.

I've got my work cut out for me.
