Fear?

I continue to be amazed at the fear mongering that is rampant upon social media.

First, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to those individuals, families and friends that lost their lives this last week at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.

If the allegation is true, that the shooter made the statement 'no more body parts' that seems to embody the rhetoric the GOP has been spouting, In particular Ms. Carly's out right refusal to re-track her 'mis-statement' about seeing a video that simply doesn't exist.

Then we have Trump spewing hate for just about anything and anyone that doesn't agree with him. And people are still following this individual who wants to close mosques, require Muslims to register and wear some sort of ID a la Nazi Germany and Jews.

All this does is to serve to stoke the fears of people here in the states.

In the aftermath of Paris, suddenly being a refugee from Syria means you are a terrorist.  How can the United States let 'these' people in?

Even with the statistics and actual hard facts, (most terrorist acts in the United States have been 'home grown, just like the ones that attacked Paris)  People refuse to open their eyes and get facts. They would rather be like meek little sheep and follow the rhetoric,

I am dismayed that even main stream media has chosen to stoke those fears, rather then report what is factual.

I recently saw a post on my fb feed about what the 'real face of refugees' looked like- and that they didn't include reeboks, laptops or cell phones. I proceeded to post link after link of 'real' Syrian refugees.  Women and children along with men. (in fact statistics show that the majority of refugees are women)  To be fair, the person who had posted the original withdrew it after being shown the real facts.

On another post, a video rant by someone basically saying that Islam is all about being a pedophile. And people are jumping all over this- and yet when pressed for real cite-sources that can be substantiated- all you get is abuse.

My advise to everyone- I'm sorry you are afraid of something you don't know.  Fear of something makes us do strange things.  But take the time to educate yourself about what Islam really is. Or Judaism or anything that you don't know.  Read the holy books of those religions to gain insight about what is about. You may find that those three- Islam, Judaism and Christianity are closer than you think.

Don't be swayed by people ranting. Repeating a lie does not make it true. Search out the facts from reliable sources. Be prepared to defend your position with fact-not opinion. From the facts you can draw your opinion. Use critical thinking skills. Be inquisitive.

You  may find that "they" are more like "us" then you think.
