Where do we go from here?
It is no secret that I am NOT a 45 supporter. If you are you may want to stop reading now.
These last few months have been a series of natural disaters across the United States.
I was out in the western States earlier this summer. In June, we say field after field that had not been planted due to earlier flooding.
Now many of those sames fields are burning. In fact, several states have been burning out of control all summer. Mainstream media has not been reporting on this and they should be.
In Texas of course we have Harvey that has devastated Houston and the surrounding areas. It will be months and years before they fully recover.
Now, as I write this, we await the landfall of Irma, a storm system that has already wiped out the island of Barbuda, disseminated the Caribbean before she turned toward Florida. ALL of Florida WILL BE IMPACTED.
In addition to the direct impacts, these disasters will affect each and everyone of us.
In the west and Texas, many of our produce is grown. Now those fields are burned or flooded. In many places if there was a crop it has laid in the field because of the shortage of immigrant workers.
After Irma passes, our fruit production will be impacted- look for the price of oranges and orange juice to hike in price.
With the grasslands on fire, look for beef prices to skyrocket.
The impact of the natural disasters will be felt in not only in our pocketbooks, but in our cupboards, or stomachs and our ability to feed our country.
Where is the leadership of our country? What has the White House decided is it's priority? A bloody wall that will not stop illegal immigration. Tax cuts for the rich. An end to DACA rather than finding a path for citizenship.
Where are the plans to feed it's people as we begin to feel the lack of food? How will they work to improve conditions and alternatives for food production to make sure our people will not starve? Where are the regulations and improvements to slow climate change so these natural disasters are not repeated in the future?
Our 'leadership' remains silent.
