8 weeks!

I am now 2 months in on the WW program.

Someone once asked me about diet programs and what was the best one.... As you know there are thousands of fad diets. My response was the diet you can stick with.

While I feel there is still truth to that statement, I have shaped my view a bit more as I'm traveling along this journey.

"Diets" don't work. At all. Nada.

And about now you are thinking What? Of course they do!  I  lost weight once on...(fill in the blank) before I quit and gained it back.

And therein is the crux.

A diet is something you do for awhile to loose weight. If  you are like me, you've tried keto, pineapple, powders, liquids...and on and on. And yes, I lost weight on each and everyone. Gained every pound back and then some after I went back to eating 'real food'.

So, if diet's don't really work, how do we loose weight?

The answer is: Lifestyle changes.

Easy, right? NOT.

This is were WW program is really making the difference.

First, I've found it easy and workable. Yes, I do have to plan around some activities but I have more than enough flexibility to have a piece of cake if I want to celebrate a grandchild's birthday or a glass of wine to celebrate mine.

Second, its about eating the way we live. Does that make sense? If I don't usually eat avocados, I don't need to eat them on program. I love popcorn. I make my popcorn and count the points. I'm fine with that. It's about make better choices then we have in the past, but it's OK to have something extra fatty/sugary once in a while.

Or not.

Counting points- not calories- is the basis of the WW plan. Lots of free foods to eat (yes, that is right free foods=no points) but you can 'spend' your points however you want.

Recently our city hosted a festival. Typically I attend and purchase my annual funnel cake. So, we were getting ready to head over to the festival grounds and I thought I should look up the point value... 33 points!!! for one funnel cake!  PASS.  So I wouldn't be tempted at all, I left my wallet at home. Too many points for me to spend. That would have been ALL my allocated daily points plus more.

But I digress-- WW is teaching me that I can eat what I want, but opened my eyes into making healthier choices.

Planning and tracking. The two most valuable tools I have learned.

2 months in. I am still with WW. I continue to follow the program and attend monthly meetings- and let me tell  you, the group that meets at the same time are absolutely wonderful.

In my two months so far, I am down 16+ pounds. I have been averaging about 2 pounds a week- just what the medical community recommends for healthy weight loss. Did I struggle in the beginning? YES. but I got over it and have continued on my journey.

A diet that works? One that  you can stick with.

A lifestyle change? One day at a time.
